Health Promotion

Every aspect of our work at East Mississauga CHC involves health promotion. This means that our programs and services help you learn ways to improve your health and to stay healthy.

East Mississauga CHC recognizes that our health is determined by: the quality of our air, the security of our housing, and the level of our income and education, among other factors.

Through education, skills building, and advocating for change, we foster for strong supportive relationships with the community and collaborative agencies. By doing so, we focus on preventing disease, reducing illness and enhancing the quality of life in the community.

In general, Health Promotion can be delivered in many different ways, for example:

  • Community education
  • Advocacy
  • Programs and activities
  • Community economic development
  • Community support initiatives
  • Lifestyle and behaviour change information
  • Community organizing to address the social determinants of health

Specifically at EMCHC, our Health Promotion programs seek to address the needs of our priority populations: queer and trans communities, newcomers and immigrants, and seniors in isolation.
